Veterans’ strong work ethics make them excellent employees.

You, as a contractor, will benefit from giving strong consideration to returning veterans. The UA wants to thank the hundreds of Union Contractors that support our men and women of the military not only as they serve their country, but with jobs when the return.

Today’s returning veterans should be given the opportunity for good jobs. That’s why William P. Hite, General President of the United Association (UA), started the Veterans In Piping (VIP) program. This nationwide program prepares veterans for lifelong careers in the construction industry.

History has proven time and time again that veterans come with skills of discipline and leadership.

The UA VIP offers many training programs, including a 16-week accelerated welding program that gives veterans the intensive hands-on training required to succeed.

The UA has had great success working with veterans. Union members, like soldiers, receive professional training, they understand responsibilities, and know the value of working together as a team!

Military veterans coming home from the Middle East have to reestablish every aspect of their lives – including new careers. According to U.S. Marine Corps' Major General (Ret.) Matt Caulfield, the unemployment rate of U.S. Armed Services Veterans, ages 22-24, has reached as high as three times the rate of non-veterans in the same age group.

Bureau of Labor statistics reveal that 450,000 welders will be needed nationwide by 2014. The average age for welders is 54, according to the American Welding Society, so new welders will be needed to replace those planning to retire. These statistics indicate that the demand for welders will only increase with time. The implementation of President Barack Obama’s plans for rebuilding America’s infrastructure will also increase the need for highly trained, quality welders.
