This milestone marks the culmination of 118 days of intensive training, hands-on learning and personal growth for a remarkable group of transitioning service members.

Through UA VIP’s comprehensive curriculum, these graduates acquired foundational and advanced welding skills, safety certifications and industry knowledge, all designed to prepare them for rewarding civilian careers.

UA VIP is a DOD SkillBridge program designed to help active-duty service members transition from military life to a rewarding civilian career.

Throughout the course, Class 29 demonstrated resilience, adaptability and camaraderie. Their dedication paid off, with each graduate prepared to begin their apprenticeships with a UA Local Union after they transition out of the military.

Instructor Greg Abrams is excited for Class 29 graduates to begin their union careers and said he enjoyed having them all in class.

Class 29 graduates have obtained several welding and safety certifications, which will help them stand out from other apprentices on future jobsites.

The UA VIP program is offered at the following military bases:

Next steps

Once Class 29 graduates transition out of the military, they will begin their DOL-registered UA apprenticeships at their agreed-upon locations. This seamless pathway offers competitive wages, benefits and ongoing opportunities for career advancement in the pipe trades.

After topping out, apprentices will become certified journeymen. Journeymen can continue to grow in their trade and become foremen, instructors, superintendents, project managers, business owners and more.

Class 29’s graduation is not just a personal achievement; it is a testament to the value of skilled trades and the power of veteran talent.

The UA is honored to welcome these new members and looks forward to supporting them as they build successful, meaningful careers.

Anyone transitioning from the military and looking for a rewarding civilian career is encouraged to apply for the UA VIP program today.
