Fort Carson Welding Class 26 students graduate from UA VIP program

The students of Fort Carson Welding Class 26 graduated from the UA VIP program on Nov. 9 and will soon begin new civilian careers in the pipe trades.

The UA VIP program is a DOD SkillBridge program that guarantees job placement to transitioning active-duty service members by placing them in a UA-registered apprenticeship program at an agreed-upon location.

The graduates will begin their apprenticeship programs soon after they transition out of the military.

Throughout the VIP program, students receive a combination of hands-on training and classroom instruction.

Throughout their time in the program, students acquired foundational skills in the pipe trade, as well as industry-recognized certifications that could include oxy-fuel cutting, SMAW plate welding, SPAW and GRAW pipe welding, SMAW pipe spooling and more.

Transitioning active-duty service members are encouraged to apply to the UA VIP program during their last six months of service. UA VIP training is available in welding, HVACR and fire suppression.

Learn more about the seven military bases across the country that offer the UA VIP program.

Service members do not have to be stationed at the installations listed above. Transitioning service members, regardless of where they are stationed, are still encouraged to apply for a class that best aligns with their interests, location and transition period.

Why the UA is right for you

The UA presents a broad spectrum of career opportunities for qualified applicants interested in the piping industry.

Graduates of the UA VIP program acquire skills in HVACR, welding, or fire suppression. These trades provide stable employment, competitive wages, and numerous opportunities for career advancement.

After transitioning from the military, students will begin their five-year apprenticeship program with a UA-registered local.

As students undergo apprenticeship training, they will receive competitive union wages and comprehensive health insurance for themselves and their families. At the same time, they will begin contributing to a pension and a 401K, securing their financial future for retirement.
