Fort Carson Welding Class 31 brings together a group of dedicated individuals ready to embark on their journey toward a rewarding civilian career in the pipe trades.  The UA VIP program is a [DOD SkillBridge](https://skillbridge.osd.mil/) initiative designed to help active-duty service members smoothly transition into a successful civilian career.  Journeymen instructors Jose Ballejo and Ezra Saint-Peter will teach Class 31 the fundamentals of welding through hands-on training and classroom instruction.  Army Sgt. Jarid Hamre is excited to learn the skills needed for a promising career in the pipe trades.  “I joined UA VIP because I believe it will teach me the skills needed to excel in my trade,” Hamre said.  During on-base training, Hamre and his Class 31 classmates will have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications in SMAW and GTAW pipe welding, which they can take with them when they begin their apprenticeship.  For 118 days, transitioning active-duty service members learn the fundamentals of welding, HVACR or fire suppression through the UA VIP program.
