Fort Carson Welding Class 31 students have reached the halfway mark of their advanced training in the UA VIP program.
The UA VIP program is a DOD SkillBridge initiative created to help active-duty service members smoothly transition into a rewarding civilian career in the pipe trades.
Since Class 31 began in May, these active-duty service members have been preparing to become future union welding apprentices.
Class 31 students will spend the second half of their training expanding their welding skills. They are led by journeymen instructors Jose Ballejo and Ezra Saint-Peter, who provide classroom instruction and hands-on training.
Class 31 students learned the agreed-upon UA Local Union location where they will start their apprenticeship after they transition out of the military.
Army Master Sgt. Hector Nunez will relocate to Fort Worth, Texas, to begin his apprenticeship with UA Local 146. Army Sgt. Jarid Hamre will also relocate to Texas when he begins his apprenticeship with UA Local 142 in San Antonio.
Army Spc. Jose De Jesus will begin his apprenticeship training with UA Local 250 in Los Angeles.
