Dallas County officials honored the UA VIP Program and Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 100 in Dallas in late February with a resolution for their work transitioning military members.

Local 100 currently has 241 apprentices enrolled in their apprenticeship program, with 13 coming from the UA VIP welding program. In April, the Local will welcome their first UA VIP HVAC apprentice.

By displaying a great work ethic, VIP members have created a wonderful reputation with contractors in Local 100’s jurisdiction. The contractors know VIP members are reliable and work hard, which is why they are eager to put VIP graduates to work the day they arrive in the Dallas area.

In their Feb. 21 resolution, the Commissioners Court of Dallas County commended the UA VIP Program and Local 100 for their commitment to helping veterans find meaningful jobs, where they can continue to be productive, working members of society.

The resolution explained how the VIP Program partners with UA Locals, such as Local 100, to help transitioning military members find work in the Pipe Trades, and provided a brief overview of the 18-week program and how all costs are paid by the UA.

Local 100 JATC Training Coordinator Debbie Vukovich said the VIP Program has been great for Local 100.

“We are proud to be a part of the VIP Program,” she said.

The first VIP graduate to join Local 100 became a journeyman in 2015, another will graduate this year and four will receive their card in 2018.

One of their fourth-year VIP members has earned eight UA weld certifications and will be competing in the Texas State Apprentice contest this April.

Congratulations to Local 100 and their UA VIP graduates for being a shining example of how the UA VIP Program can make a positive impact in the lives of our military members and the community.
