Fort Campbell Welding Class 27 Graduates Ready To Take Next Step

Written by UA Veterans in Piping | Dec 19, 2025 4:00:00 PM

Over the past several months, the members of Fort Campbell Welding Class 27 committed themselves to learning basic welding skills in the United Association Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) program.

Once they transition out of the military, these graduates will re-enter civilian life and begin a career in the pipe trades. Class 27 graduates are guaranteed work with a signatory contractor and direct entry into a DOL-registered UA apprenticeship program at an agreed-upon location.

A Strong Start for What Comes Next

During the 118 days of training, Class 27 students learned the basic welding skills necessary to start a successful civilian career in the union pipe trades. The on-base training provided the opportunity to learn oxy-fuel cutting and to earn SMAW and GTAW pipe welding certifications, which will carry over to their apprenticeship.

U.S. Army Combat Infantryman David Reeves called the UA VIP, “a great starting point for my future.”

While he enjoyed the UA VIP program, Reeves described the mindset it takes to succeed.

“I had a great time in the class and learned a lot,” he said. “Come to work ready to learn and have fun.”

That combination — serious training, consistent effort and the willingness to stay engaged — helps set UA VIP students up for success as they transition from the military into the civilian world.

Where Our Graduates Are Going

In coordination with UA VIP program administrators, all the Fort Campbell Welding Class 27 graduates have identified the location where they will begin their UA apprenticeships. This includes the following cities and UA Local Unions:

A Proven Pathway: UA Veterans in Piping (VIP)

The UA VIP Program is a gold-standard for DoW SkillBridge programs. It provides free pipe trades training for transitioning active-duty service members in fire suppression, welding or HVACR.

When Class 27 graduates begin their apprenticeship, they will already possess the basic knowledge to perform proper installation, maintenance, and repair of various piping systems.

While working as apprentices, UA VIP graduates will earn a livable wage and qualify for full-family medical and retirement benefits, including a pension and a 401 (k).

After completing the five-year program, apprentices will become journeymen, opening a variety of career opportunities and avenues for advancement.

UA VIP Locations

The UA VIP program offers nine programs at the following seven military installations:

Congratulations, Fort Campbell Welding Class 27

Graduation is a milestone, but it is also the start of the next phase for the members of Fort Campbell Welding Class 27. As they prepare to join UA Local Unions across the country, they are expected to bring the same discipline and work ethic that carried them through their military service and the VIP program into their apprenticeship.

Congratulations to the members of Welding Class 27! The UA family is proud of what you have accomplished, and we look forward to seeing what you build next.
