NEWS AND HAPPENINGS WITH VIP

Take a look at some of the newsworthy items for the VIP program.

Camp Pendleton Welding Class 41 students halfway through training

Students in the United Association Veterans In Piping (UA VIP) Camp Pendleton Welding Class 41 students are officially halfway through their advanced welding training.

With about nine weeks down, students will deepen their understanding of welding fundamentals under the guidance of experienced journeyman instructors. This will be achieved through a blend of hands-on training and classroom instruction.

The UA VIP program is a DOD Skillbridge initiative, designed to assist in the seamless transition of active-duty service members into rewarding civilian careers in the pipe trade.

Active-duty military members in their last six months of service can apply for the UA VIP program and begin training in welding, fire suppression or HVACR.

After completing the course and transitioning out of the armed forces, UA VIP graduates are guaranteed a job with a UA signatory contractor in an agreed-upon location.

After transitioning out of the military, Marine Cpl. Alec Moyer will begin his apprenticeship at Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 189 in Columbus, Ohio.

While in the apprenticeship program, students will earn a livable wage and full-family healthcare and retirement benefits. Students will also continue to learn and improve their pipe trades skills during their apprenticeship as they work side-by-side with experienced journeymen.

Marine Cpl. Mario Monsibais will start his apprenticeship nearby with UA Local 230 in San Diego, Calif.

Other Class 41 students will complete their apprenticeship programs in various parts of Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Oregon, New Jersey and Texas.

UA VIP History

The UA VIP program was created in 2008. Since then, the UA VIP program has helped thousands of service members smoothly transition back to civilian life with a rewarding career where they can earn good wages and benefits.

Those who complete the UA VIP Program are not only recognized for their dedication but are also guaranteed job placement and immediate entry into a UA apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor (DOL).

The UA VIP program is founded on the belief that service members possess the skill set and discipline that is essential for success in the piping industry.

Transitioning active-duty service members are encouraged to apply for the UA VIP program during their last six months of service.
