Camp Pendleton Welding Class 45 graduates ready for civilian pipe trades careers

On May 29, Camp Pendleton Welding Class 45 students graduated from the United Association Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) program, beginning a new chapter for these dedicated service members.

After 118 days of intensive training, these graduates are ready to begin their new, rewarding civilian careers in the pipe trades once they transition out of the military.

Throughout the program, Class 45 students received hands-on instruction from experienced UA instructors, learning the fundamentals of welding through both classroom and hands-on training.

The program's curriculum included SMAW and GTAW welding techniques, OSHA safety protocols, blueprint reading and industry standards.

During their time in the program, Class 45 students had the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications that will help them stand apart from other apprentices on future jobsites.

Class 45 students graduated knowing the basics of proper installation, maintenance and repair of various piping systems.

Once they transition out of the military, they will begin their five-year, DOL-registered apprenticeship program at an agreed-upon UA Local Union.

Start a UA apprenticeship through UA VIP

UA VIP is a DOD SkillBridge program designed to help active-duty service members smoothly transition from military life to a rewarding civilian career.

While working as apprentices, VIP graduates will earn good union wages and quickly qualify for comprehensive healthcare for themselves and their families.

While apprentices train, they will earn good union wages as they continue to expand their knowledge of the trade.

Class 45 graduates leave the UA VIP program with more than new skills; they gain access to a future filled with opportunity.

After topping out, apprentices will become journeymen, opening the doors to more opportunities for career growth. Journeymen can advance in their trade by becoming foremen, instructors, superintendents and more.
