The United Association Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) program is proud to welcome another cohort of transitioning service members.
Fort Carson Welding Class 31 brings together a group of dedicated individuals ready to embark on their journey toward a rewarding civilian career in the pipe trades.
The UA VIP program is a DOD SkillBridge initiative designed to help active-duty service members smoothly transition into a successful civilian career.
Journeymen instructors Jose Ballejo and Ezra Saint-Peter will teach Class 31 the fundamentals of welding through hands-on training and classroom instruction.
Army Sgt. Jarid Hamre is excited to learn the skills needed for a promising career in the pipe trades.
“I joined UA VIP because I believe it will teach me the skills needed to excel in my trade,” Hamre said.
During on-base training, Hamre and his Class 31 classmates will have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications in SMAW and GTAW pipe welding, which they can take with them when they begin their apprenticeship.
For 118 days, transitioning active-duty service members learn the fundamentals of welding, HVACR or fire suppression through the UA VIP program. The UA VIP program is offered at the following military bases:
- Camp Pendleton (welding)
- Joint Base Lewis-McChord (welding and HVACR)
- Fort Carson (welding)
- Fort Cavazos (welding)
- Camp Lejeune (welding)
- Fort Campbell (welding and fire suppression)
- Naval Station Norfolk (HVACR)
Benefits of UA VIP
The UA VIP program provides free training without using GI Bill benefits, offers industry-recognized certifications and ensures direct entry into a UA-registered apprenticeship with guaranteed job placement.
After transitioning from military service, VIP graduates secure guaranteed positions within a DOL-registered UA apprenticeship program at an agreed-upon location.
While working as apprentices, VIP graduates will earn good union wages and will qualify for comprehensive healthcare benefits for themselves and their families.
As apprentices grow their knowledge of the trade, they will earn wage increases.
