Fort Cavazos Welding Class 24 graduates ready for civilian careers

Fort Cavazos | UA VIP

Recent graduates of the United Association Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) program Fort Cavazos Welding Class 24 will not be concerned about finding a job once they leave the military.

For more than a decade, UA VIP has provided the men and women of our armed forces who are preparing to transition back to civilian life with DOD Skillbridge training and guaranteed job placement in the pipe trades.

In 18 fast-paced weeks, the students of Fort Cavazos Welding Class 24 took their first steps into the world of the pipe trades by learning the fundamentals of welding from experienced journeymen instructors. Through the use of classroom instruction and hands-on practice, the Class 24 graduates learned the basics of installation, maintenance and repair of all types of piping systems.

Students also obtained industry-recognized certifications in SMAW plate welding, oxy-fuel cutting, SPAW and GTAW pipe welding and SMAW pipe spooling.

Their next step toward a civilian career is guaranteed entry into a UA-registered apprenticeship program at an agreed-upon location. The UA VIP program is a DOD Skillbridge program created to smoothly transition active-duty service members into their next career after serving our country.

The welding industry is guaranteed to provide transitioning active-duty service members with a steady employment rate, considering our country's investment in infrastructure improvements.

Employment in the welding industry produces unlimited opportunities in whatever path you choose, from natural gas and oil to construction or sanitation. The possibilities for the well-trained welder are practically endless.

UA VIP Training is available at seven military bases with nine different programs.

Welcome to the UA Brotherhood

The UA VIP program is free, thanks to your future UA Brothers and Sisters.

The UA apprenticeship operates under the earn-while-you-learn model, which allows apprentices to earn good, livable hourly wages while working on jobsites. Besides learning in the field from journeymen, they also receive classroom instruction from certified instructors.

UA VIP Graduates will quickly qualify for quality health insurance for themselves and their families while they contribute to a pension and a 401K plan for retirement.

When Class 24 graduates complete the 5-year apprenticeship program, they will become certified journeymen welders. These qualified journeymen can become foremen, instructors, superintendents, project managers, union officers or a UA signatory contractor.
