Congratulations to the members of Joint Base Lewis-McChord HVACR Class 30, who graduated from the United Association Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) program on Oct. 24.
Once these UA VIP graduates transition out of the military, they are guaranteed direct entry into a DOL-registered apprenticeship program with a UA Local Union at an agreed-upon location.
The UA VIP program is a DOD SkillBridge program, created to help active-duty service members transition back to civilian life as smoothly as possible.
Class 30 students learned the fundamentals of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration through classroom instruction and hands-on training through a combination of hands-on training and classroom instruction.
During their time in the program, Class 30 graduates had the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications in HVAC refrigeration, UA 51 brazing and more.
The UA VIP program offers 118 days of on-base training to help transitioning service members prepare for a civilian career in welding, HVACR or fire suppression at the following seven military installations:
- Camp Pendleton (welding)
- Joint Base Lewis McChord (welding and HVACR)
- Fort Carson (welding)
- Fort Cavazos (welding)
- Camp Lejeune (welding)
- Fort Campbell (welding and fire suppression)
- Naval Station Norfolk (HVACR)
UA VIP apprentices stand out from peers
Class 30 graduates will start their apprenticeship knowing the basics of installing and maintaining heating, cooling and refrigeration systems in residential, commercial and industrial areas, helping them stand apart from their peers on the jobsite.
After Class 30 graduates transition out of the military, they will begin working for a UA signatory contractor.
While working as apprentices, Class 30 graduates will earn a livable wage and qualify for full-family medical and retirement benefits, including a 401K and pension.
If you or someone you know is a transitioning active-duty service member in your last six months of service and seeking guaranteed job security, apply for the UA VIP program today.
