JBLM Welding Class 29 students graduate from the UA VIP program

Students in the United Association Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) program at Joint Base Lewis-McChord graduated on Feb. 1. 

After they transition out of the military, graduates will begin their civilian careers in the pipe trades industry. 

VIP graduates are guaranteed direct entry into a DOL-registered apprenticeship program with the United Association (UA) at an agreed-upon location nationwide.

UA VIP welding instructor Jeremy Rood taught  Class 29 students the basic welding skills needed to be successful in the UA’s apprenticeship program. 

Rood taught the class through both classroom instruction and hands-on training. 

During their time in the program, students had the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications in Oxy-Fuel Cutting, SMAW Plate Welding, SMAW Pipe Welding, SMAW Pipe Spool and GRAW Pipe Welding. image0

Going into their apprenticeship programs, students will know the basics to perform proper installation, maintenance, and repair of various piping systems. 

The UA VIP program offers 118 days of training to help transitioning service members prepare for a civilian career in welding, HVACR or fire suppression at seven select bases across the country:

Since 2008, the VIP program has helped thousands of active-duty service members as they transition from the military into rewarding civilian careers. 

After graduating from the UA VIP program and transitioning out of the military, VIP graduates will begin their five-year apprenticeship at a UA Local at an agreed-upon location.
