The United Association’s Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) program proudly celebrates the graduation of Naval Station Norfolk HVACR Class 25.
From May 12 to Sept. 4, this dedicated group of transitioning active-duty service members completed an intensive journey, gaining hands-on experience and industry certifications that will prepare them for successful civilian careers.
Through UA VIP’s comprehensive HVACR curriculum, these graduates learned essential skills in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration maintenance and installation.
The program’s blend of classroom instruction and hands-on training ensures that every graduate is ready to meet the demands of the modern workforce.
Throughout the course, Class 25 students demonstrated the discipline and teamwork that are hallmarks of both military service and the skilled trades.
Guided by experienced UA instructor Nastassia Leggett, students tackled challenging modules, from system diagnostics and repair to energy efficiency and safety protocols. Their collective determination has resulted in a class of highly qualified, job-ready HVACR professionals.
The UA VIP program offers 118 days of training in welding, HVACR or fire suppression at the following military bases:
- Camp Pendleton (welding)
- Joint Base Lewis-McChord (welding and HVACR)
- Fort Carson (welding)
- Fort Hood (welding)
- Camp Lejeune (welding)
- Fort Campbell (welding and fire suppression)
- Naval Station Norfolk (HVACR)

The UA VIP program is a DOD SkillBridge initiative that connects graduates directly with apprenticeship opportunities.
When Class 25 graduates begin their apprenticeships, they will have immediate access to competitive wages, industry-leading benefits and a clear path for career advancement within the pipe trades.
The graduation of Class 25 is a proud milestone for the UA VIP program. These new graduates are not only well-prepared for their new civilian careers, but they also embody the values of hard work, integrity and service that define the military and the unionized trades.
