UA VIP Camp LeJeune graduates begin new chapter in the pipe trades

Eleven men graduated from Welding Class 19 at Camp LeJeune in the United Association Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) Program, and will soon begin the next chapter of their lives — in UA Registered Apprenticeship Programs across the country.

The VIP Program offers graduates guaranteed job placement through the United Association. They will earn good union wages and soon be eligible for quality healthcare for themselves and their families. They also start earning a pension and a 401K for their retirement.

The VIP graduates will join UA Local Unions in locations such as Austin, Texas; Memphis, Tenn.; Portsmouth, Va. and Fort Worth, Texas.

Earn industry recognized certifications with free hands-on training

Over the 18-week UA VIP training, class 19 learned basic welding skills through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training. The students earned industry recognized certifications such as Oxy-Fuel Cutting, SMAW Plate Welding, SMAW Pipe Welding, SMAW Pipe Spool and GTAW Pipe Welding.

The United Association Veterans in Piping Program is designed to prepare transitioning active duty service members for civilian careers. The program is free for those who qualify. Members of the military are eligible to apply to the program during their last 18 months of service commitment.

UA VIP training is available to transitioning active-duty service members in welding, HVACR and fire sprinkler fitting. UA VIP training is available at select military bases throughout the country.
