UA VIP Fort Carson Welding Class 21 celebrates graduation

UA VIP Fort Carson Welding Class 21 celebrates graduation

For the 13 graduates of the Welding Class 21 at Fort Carson, the change from military life to the civilian world is made simpler because their future career is set.

Thanks to the United Association Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) Program, the class 21 graduates are guaranteed placement in a UA Registered Apprenticeship Program. They will begin apprenticeship training while earning a livable wage. They will also be eligible for quality healthcare for themselves and their families and will start earning a pension and a 401K for their retirement.

The UA VIP Program trains transitioning active duty service members with basic skills for careers in the pipe trades.

Through the 18-week accelerated training course, the welding class trained alongside an experienced instructor through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training. They earned industry recognized certifications, including Oxy-Fuel Cutting, SMAW Plate Welding, SMAW Pipe Welding, SMAW Pipe Spool and GTAW Pipe Welding.

A direct path to a registered apprenticeship

Active military service members are eligible to apply to the free career skills program during their last 18 months of service. Training takes place on base.

After they graduate from the United Association Veterans in Piping Program and transition out of the military, each graduate begins an apprenticeship at an agreed upon location. Members from the Fort Carson Welding Class 21 will begin apprenticeships at UA Local Unions across the country, including Alabama, Florida, Masschuttests and Missouri.

The UA VIP Program takes place at select military bases around the nation.
