UA VIP HVACR Class 15 begins learning skills for civilian careers

The UA VIP HVAC Class 15 at Naval Station Norfolk has started. Students will learn the basics of installing/repairing HVAC to begin civilian careers.

Eight service members in the United Association Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) HVACR program at Naval Station Norfolk, are preparing for their new careers post military service.

Throughout the 18-week accelerated training program students will learn the basics of installing, repairing and maintaining heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems alongside an experienced journeyman instructor in a lab setting located on base.

The VIP Skillbridge program is designed to prepare transitioning active-duty service members for apprenticeship. Students will learn basic skill sets needed to begin good paying careers in the construction trades.

 

A direct path to a union apprenticeship in construction

VIP graduates are guaranteed job placement and direct entry into a 5-year UA registered apprenticeship program in an agreed upon location nationwide. Throughout the apprenticeship program, they’ll earn good pay, quality healthcare and 401K benefits for their retirement. Pay gradually increases as they progress through the program.

Students are selected to participate in the VIP program through an interview process. Opportunities are available at select military bases across the country.
