Camp Lejeune Welding Class 26 students graduate from the UA VIP program

Students in Camp Lejeune Welding Class 26 celebrated their graduation from the United Association Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) program on Aug. 1.

These graduates will begin their civilian careers in the pipe trades once they transition out of the military in the upcoming months.

UA VIP graduates are guaranteed work and direct entry into a DOL-registered UA apprenticeship program at an agreed-upon location.

Over the last 118 days, the Welding Class 26 students learned the basic skills necessary to start a successful career.

Journeymen instructors Greg Abrams and Rachel LaBlance taught Welding Class 26 students through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training.

During their time in the VIP program, students had the opportunity to learn and earn certifications in oxy-fuel cutting, along with plate and pipe SMAW and GRAW welding. Class 26 graduates will take these skills and certifications with them to their UA Local.

The UA VIP program offers on-base training to help transitioning service members prepare for a civilian career in welding, HVAC-R or fire suppression. The UA VIP program is offered at the following military installations:

UA apprenticeships

The UA VIP program provides students with the advanced training to stand out among other apprentices.

VIP graduates already know the basics of welding and how to perform proper installation, maintenance and repair of various piping systems before entering their apprenticeship programs.

While working as apprentices, VIP graduates will earn good wages and qualify for medical benefits. Class 26 graduates will continue to learn and improve their industry knowledge and skills through on-the-job training and classroom instruction.

Once apprentices top out and become journeymen, the opportunities for career advancement are limitless. Journeymen can go on to eventually become foremen, superintendents, instructors and more.

The skills VIP students learn during their time in the UA VIP program prepare them for a long, rewarding civilian career in the pipe trades.

All active-duty service members looking for a stress-free transition out of the military and into a rewarding civilian career are encouraged to apply for the UA VIP program. For additional information, visit the UA VIP website
