The United Association Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) program proudly celebrated the graduation of Fort Cavazos Welding Class 29 on May 29.
This milestone marks the start of an exciting new journey for these transitioning service members, who are now prepared to start successful civilian careers in the piping industry.
The UA VIP program is a DOD SkillBridge initiative designed to help active-duty service members smoothly transition from military life to a rewarding civilian career.
After 118 days of rigorous, accelerated training, Class 29 graduates have developed the technical expertise, confidence and work ethic needed to thrive as UA apprentices.
Their training consisted of a combination of classroom instruction with extensive hands-on learning, guided by experienced UA instructors who understand the challenges and opportunities of career transition.
During their training, students had the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications, giving them a competitive edge over other first-year apprentices.
Class 29 students leave the program equipped not just with new skills, but with a solid foundation for a secure, rewarding future as union welders.
The UA VIP program is offered at the following military bases:
- Camp Pendleton (welding)
- Joint Base Lewis-McChord (welding and HVACR)
- Fort Carson (welding)
- Fort Cavazos (welding)
- Camp Lejeune (welding)
- Fort Campbell (welding and fire suppression)
- Naval Station Norfolk (HVACR)
Begin a union career
As demand for skilled professionals in the pipe trades grows, the UA VIP program presents an excellent opportunity for active-duty service members seeking to transition into a civilian career.
After transitioning from the military, VIP graduates secure a position in a DOL-registered UA apprenticeship program at an agreed-upon location and a guaranteed job with a UA signatory contractor.
While working as apprentices, VIP graduates will earn good union wages and will quickly qualify for comprehensive healthcare for themselves and their families.
After topping out, apprentices will become certified journeymen. Journeymen can continue to grow in their trade and become foremen, instructors, superintendents, project managers, business owners and more.
Anyone transitioning from the military and looking for a rewarding civilian career is encouraged to visit the UA VIP website today to learn more.
