The United Association Veterans in Piping (UA VIP) program celebrated the graduation of Fort Campbell Sprinkler Fitter Class 18, marking an important milestone as these active-duty service members prepare to transition into rewarding civilian careers in the pipe trades.
The UA VIP program is a DOW SkillBridge program designed to help transitioning active-duty service members prepare for a civilian career in the pipe trades. The program is open to service members who will be in their 180-day transition window when the course begins and ends.
During the program's 118-day training schedule, Class 18 members developed foundational sprinkler fitting skills through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training. Students also had the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications they can carry with them as they transition out of the military — certifications that will help them stand out from other apprentices.
Where Class 18 Graduates Are Going
After transitioning out of the military, UA VIP graduates are guaranteed direct entry into a DOL-registered UA apprenticeship program at an agreed-upon location. Working with program administrators, Fort Campbell Sprinkler Fitter Class 18 graduates have selected the following areas to begin their civilian careers:
- Philadelphia
- Central New Jersey
- Salt Lake City
- Nashville, Tenn.
- Morgantown, W.Va.
- North Carolina
- South Carolina
Graduates have Guaranteed Job Placement
After transitioning out of the military, UA VIP graduates are placed into a DOL-registered UA apprenticeship program and guaranteed a job with a UA signatory contractor. While working as apprentices, graduates will earn quality union wages and benefits as they continue to master their trade. As their skills grow, so will their wages — and upon completing the apprenticeship, they become journeymen, opening the door to even greater career advancement.
The UA VIP program's 118-day, 720-hour curriculum helps students build skills in sprinkler fitting, welding or HVACR. Once they relocate and begin their apprenticeships, graduates will quickly qualify for comprehensive healthcare coverage for themselves and their families, and begin contributing to a pension and 401(k) for retirement.
The UA VIP program offers nine programs at the following seven military installations:
- Joint Base Lewis-McChord (Welding and HVACR)
- Camp Pendleton (Welding)
- Fort Carson (Welding)
- Fort Hood (Welding)
- Camp Lejeune (Welding)
- Fort Campbell (Welding and Sprinkler Fitting)
- Naval Station Norfolk (HVACR)
Congratulations, Class 18
The UA applauds the Class 18 graduates for their dedication and achievement. The UA welcomes you into our union family. As you begin this new chapter, you are stepping into a Brotherhood and Sisterhood built on opportunity, training and lifelong support.
